With the 2021-2022 high school basketball season on the books, the Oklahoma Coaches Association recently released its All-Star teams and five area athletes were honored.
Ardmore led the way as DD Coleman and Dion Brown were named Large West All-Stars in Class 5A.
Madill’s Ezekiel Fuentes earned Large East All-Star honors in Class 3A, while Turner’s Erick Barea and Springer’s Mickey Hunnicutt are Small West All-Stars for Class B.
All five athletes were also selected to the All-Ardmoreite Men’s Basketball First Team.
It’s safe to say the Tigers will have big shoes to fill next season without their dominating duo.
Coleman beat Ardmore with a team-high 16.6 points per game and also finished with averages of five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Brown also helped with 14.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.
The pair helped propel the Tigers to a combined 26 games over the past two seasons, highlighted by a trip to the semifinals of the 2021 Class 5A State Tournament.
Moving up to Class 4A where Fuentes averaged 17.9 points, 3.9 assists and 3.3 boards per contest. Those numbers also helped the Wildcats win games, as they finished with an 18-6 overall record.
Meanwhile, the last two winners have been hard to stop in Class B.
Barea had 18 points, nine assists and nine rebounds per game as the Falcons soared through the competition for a 17-4 overall mark.
Hunnicutt helped the Cardinals finish this season with a 21-7 record and a 17th-place finish. The big man averaged 14.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 blocks.
