Darien celebrates opening of new pickleball and refurbished basketball courts

DARIEN – Residents now have new or improved recreational offerings to enjoy in town.

The city recently held a dedication ceremony for the four new pickleball courts at Cherry Lawn Park.

Pickleball has become one of the fastest growing recreational activities in Darien, particularly since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Parks and Recreation Department has seen a significant increase in the community’s desire to take advantage of both free play time and classes offered as part of its programs, according to a press release.

There was also a groundbreaking ceremony for the newly renovated Cherry Lawn Park basketball court.

Several basketball players and enthusiasts came to enjoy the games and gifts to celebrate the official opening of the field.

Renovating the court has been placed at the top of the city’s capital project priorities in part due to the pandemic and the need for more outdoor recreation options for city residents, according to a statement. .

The works were carried out in public / private partnership.

Since it reopened, the department said the field has been teeming with pickup games and casual games for basketball players of all ages.
