Five Galesburg-area basketball players receive IBCA honors

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association announced members of its all-state women’s basketball teams on Friday, and five high school players from the Galesburg area received honors for their on-court efforts during the 2021 season. -22.

In Class 3A, Kiarra Kilgore of Galesburg High School was named to the second team. The second shot 46% from the field. Kilgore averaged 19.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals for the Silver Streaks, who went 23-11 overall and won a regional crown.

In late February, Kilgore was named to the Western Big 6 Conference first team. In the league, she averaged 20 points per game, putting her behind Geneseo’s Kammie Ludwig, who led the WB6 with an average of 24.5 points and was named conference MVP. Against league opponents, Kilgore grabbed 8.2 rebounds, which tied her with teammate Abby Lingafelter for third place in the WB6.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kilgore received an all-state honorable mention from the Illinois Associated Press.

Heat’s Bowman in the third team in 1A

In Class 1A, West Central sophomore Shelby Bowman was chosen for the IBCA Third Team. The guard averaged 23.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.8 assists for the Heat, who finished with a 13-15 overall rating. Bowman was named to the Illinois AP second team.

Special mention for the A-Town pair

Also in Class 1A, Abingdon-Avon’s sophomore position Brook Pieper and lead guard/forward Ashley Jones received a Special Mention from the IBCA. The pair were AP honorable mention selections.

Jones averaged 16.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per outing for the Tornadoes, who finished with a 20-6 overall record. Pieper averaged 15.1 points, 12.8 rebounds, 4.3 blocks and 2.2 assists per game for A-Town.

Special mention Huston from the Titans in 2A

Monmouth-Roseville striker Carmyn Huston won the IBCA Class 2A Special Mention. The sophomore averaged 15.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, two blocks, 1.7 steals and one assist per game for the Titans, who went 24-8 overall this season.

“She’s often the hardest worker on the floor with a double and triple team,” Mon-Rose coach Scott Weber said of Huston.

Huston scored 20+ first-half points three times for the Titans, and she was a unanimous first-team selection to the Three Rivers Athletic Conference West Division.
