Several Downriver-area women’s basketball players have all won All-Huron League honors – The News Herald

The Huron League recently released its all-league roster for the 2021-22 women’s basketball season and several players from the Downriver area were honoured.

Riverview repeated as Huron League champions with a perfect 14-0 run in league play.

Grosse Île finished second in the league with a 12-2 record while Huron (6-8) was fifth and Flat Rock (2-12) was seventh.

For Riverview, first-team all-league honors went to junior forward Elyssa Kincaid and senior guard Rayah Kolbusz. Junior guard Cadence Kaminske and senior forward Maelyn Sorenson earned a spot on the Pirates second team. An honorable mention went to Riverview Senior Center Olivia Stergiadis.

Grose Ile senior guards Natalie Christnagel and Ashlyn Weatherly both earned first-team honors for the 2021-22 season. Two Red Devils also claimed a spot in the second team, thanks to senior guard Emma Johnson and junior guard Natalee Kirk. Junior forward Cailey O’Farrell received an honorable mention for Grosse Île.

From Huron, senior hitter Samantha Belair earned first-team honors while senior guard Izzie Pritt was named to the second team and sophomore guard Lila Clements received honorable mention.

For Flat Rock, senior forward Matajia Cerroni was a second-team all-league selection and senior guard Sophia Somerset earned an honorable mention.
